Of grade, I am a huge fan of Jesse Wise and her daughter, Susan Wise Bauer (authors of "The Well Trained Mind") then when I saw that Jesse Wise had written this book, I had to check it out.

Information technology'due south wonderful.

She uses a phonics approach and goes footstep-past-step starting time instruction audio-symbol association, then basic words. Using catchy rhymes, children learn beginning the consonant and short-vowel sounds, then progress to the long-vowel sounds. All the while, they're building on what they've learned by reading curt words and sentences using the sounds they've learned...and introduction to punctuation is seamlessly intertwined with each lesson.

Afterward having tried a few other reading programs, I can say that this is the easiest, most comprehensive and straightforward program for instruction a kid to read. Each lesson is brusque, sweetness, to the point and VERY piece of cake for a parent to present. It is structured and then that information technology tin can be tailored to whatever kid's needs (my daughter already had sound-symbol clan but needed to learn short-vowel vs. long-vowel sounds, then we were easily able to skip to that part of the volume).

At the beginning of the book Wise reassures parents that teaching reading is very easy to do...and she proves it throughout the book.

I would recommend using the BOB books in conjunction with this guide.

This is the volume nosotros've been using this twelvemonth (kindergarten) for phonics and starting to learn to read. We are about 50 lessons in and I honey the open up-and-become format. Goes through the fourth grade reading level, then this has been a very low-price program that should be all we will demand in terms of actual lessons.

We take been using various easy phonics readers aslope for my son to practise reading some more elementary stories. They don't always "match upwardly" exactly similar a more than extensive (expensive) phonics program would that has coordinating readers and other bells & whistles, but it'south easy to guess which ones he is or is non fix for since I'm the ane doing all the lessons with him.

We take a long way to go, only he'southward so excited to meet his progress — and and and then am I! No curriculum will work for every kid, but this seems to exist a practiced fit for united states of america. What originally seemed similar a chip of a daunting task, has not necessarily been *easy,* only it's been really corking to exist able to piece of work on this together. Nosotros volition be continuing at least through the summer and and so we volition see about 1st grade.

Information engineering science is a helpful guide for anyone wanting to innovate reading to their child, and specially for the homeschooling parent.
